The saddest moment I’ve had Spearfishing. I lined up on this Kagami, aka African Pompano, and pulled the trigger—only to realize my band was loaded onto the vertical line release instead of the shaft. With no tension on the shaft, pulling the trigger did absolutely nothing. I watched a beautiful Kagami swim away after having a perfect shot lined up. This shark was waiting for an opportunity to take the fish right off my dive buddy’s waist. It kept getting closer and more aggressive until we had to use the shaft to push it away and create some space. Shot this Kamanu aka Rainbow Runner 🌈🐟 and this shark got a little curious! 🦈 Kamanu are closely related to California Yellowtail and are one of my favorite fish to eat raw. The meat is firm, clean, and incredible for sashimi when handled properly and kept ice cold.
