Pretty happy about that shot placement, only saw the red between its eyes in the cave. The Red Roman is on of the coolest fish I know about! Like a mix between a snapper and an aquarium fish. Also super fascinating biology, where the females changes to males when they hit about 30cm. Stoked to land a solid one on this mornings shore dive with @spear4sushi. Can’t wait to cook it up tonight!

I find that one of the best things about hunting is the experience of being out in the wild amongst incredible creatures, where we have the opportunity to experience things that 90% (95%? 99%?) of the world never will. How could your average layperson imagine being visited by an Orca while spearfishing? AND a humpback whale? “Halibut is the most resilient fish I’ve ever speared. This one had two spears in its head, and was probably bled for 15+ minutes before we tried to get it in the boat. The only thing that makes them stop is cutting the spine which is impossible while it’s still in the water. It’s absolutely fascinating how much they can withstand. A friend of mine speared a 70kilo one in that head and the line snapped. It was speared again 1,5 years later completely fine with the shaft still in its head. The project this winter…

These bastards are eating everything they come across and leaving big deserts of dead seabed behind them. Unfortunately for them they’re absolutely delicious and pretty easy to take. Because of their big value in commercial fishing there is limits when it comes to fishing methods and how many you can catch west of 26* east, but outside of this area there’s no limits and you can fill the bag 🦀🦀
