Louisiana Outdoors Forever Opens $2 Million Conservation Funding Cycle

Louisiana has another conservation funding window open, and groups with shovel-ready habitat and access work should not sleep on it.

The Louisiana Outdoors Forever Technical Advisory Board is taking pre-applications for its fourth funding cycle, with the window closing Sept. 4, 2026. This cycle has $2 million available. The program is built to help conservation projects compete for additional grants by providing state dollars or match money that can pull larger funding packages into Louisiana.

The first three rounds show why match money matters. LOF has selected 21 projects, awarded $12 million and helped bring another $37.8 million into the state. The 2023 cycle funded 13 projects with $10 million in LOF dollars and $27.9 million in matching funds. The 2025 cycle funded five projects, and the 2026 cycle funded three more.

That is the kind of conservation accounting that actually lands on the ground. Wetlands, fisheries, wildlife habitat, public access and working landscapes all need money, and smart match programs can stretch conservation dollars a lot farther than one pot of money by itself.

Hunters and fishermen should pay attention to these windows because habitat does not rebuild itself and access does not protect itself. If we want ducks, deer, fish and places for regular people to go, then projects need funding, partners and deadlines that get taken seriously.
