South Carolina Deer Hunting With Dogs Meeting Moved to Larger Walterboro Venue

South Carolina houndsmen and deer hunters need to pay attention to this one.

The SCDNR public hearing on deer hunting with dogs scheduled for Monday, August 10, has been moved to a larger venue: FAITH Church, 848 Bells Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina. The agency says the forums are informational and not tied to any currently introduced South Carolina legislation, but that does not mean hunters can afford to sleep through them.

Deer hunting with dogs is one of those traditions that gets targeted by people who do not live it, do not understand it, and often do not care how much culture, family, landowner cooperation, and legal harvest history are tied to it. SCDNR has heard a range of public input, including local complaints and hunter-landowner conflicts. That is exactly why the people who actually hunt, manage dogs, lease land, own land, and follow the rules need to be in the room.

If you cannot attend, submit comments through SCDNR’s public comment process. Silence is not neutral when hunting methods are on the table. It just leaves the microphone to people who want less hunting, fewer options, and more restrictions.

Show up respectfully, speak plainly, and defend the tradition like it matters. Because it does.
