CCA Florida Orlando Fundraiser Raises $30,000 for Marine Conservation Work

Florida marine conservation just got another local boost from anglers willing to put money behind the resource.

CCA Florida’s 26th Annual Orlando BBQ fundraiser drew more than 150 guests to Mud Hole Custom Tackle’s Curt Baker Memorial Education Center in Oviedo and generated an estimated $30,000 for conservation initiatives across the state. The event included dinner, a live band, silent auction, open bar, and kid-friendly hands-on exhibits.

That may sound like a small community event compared to the big policy fights, but this is how a lot of conservation work gets paid for. Banquets, raffles, auctions, local chapters, volunteers, tackle shops, captains, and everyday fishermen keep projects moving long after the speeches are over.

Florida’s fisheries and coastal habitats take pressure from every direction: growth, water quality problems, boating pressure, harvest pressure, storms, and politics. Groups that are willing to fight for habitat, water, access, and responsible fishing need support from the people who actually use and value the resource.

Buying a license matters. Following the rules matters. So does showing up for the organizations doing the grind work. If anglers want healthy marine resources and a seat at the table, we have to fund the work and keep our hands in it.
