Delaware Repeals Sunday Hunting Ban and Updates Wildlife Laws

Delaware hunters just got a major win. The 2026 legislative session is over, and the state has repealed its old Sunday hunting ban.

HB 278 opens Sunday hunting for all legal game animals and game birds during established seasons. That matters. A lot of working people get one real day off in a week, and telling them they cannot hunt that day under an old blue-law mindset never made sense for modern wildlife management or regular families trying to put time in the woods.

The bill also updates straight-wall ammunition rules for deer hunting and keeps property-level discretion in place, meaning private landowners and public agencies still control access on their ground. That is the right balance: more legal opportunity without pretending every piece of land is automatically open to everybody.

Delaware also moved HB 412, a broader hunting, trapping, and wildlife reform package. That law clarifies that dogs may be used to track or recover wounded deer, allows lawful sale of taxidermy and antlers, and requires people who are legally exempt from buying a hunting or trapping license to still complete an approved safety and education program.

This is what pro-hunting policy should look like: expand lawful opportunity, clean up outdated rules, respect landowners, and keep safety and wildlife management in the picture. Sunday hunting is not radical. It is regulated hunting on one more day of the week, during legal seasons, under the same conservation framework hunters already pay for and follow.
