NDA Public Land Workdays Put Hunters to Work for Habitat Across Five States

Public land does not stay good by accident. Somebody has to put boots on the ground and do the work.

The National Deer Association has five Public Land Workday events lined up in August, with projects scheduled in Missouri, Texas, Michigan, Georgia, and Iowa. The dates and places include McGee Family Conservation Area in Missouri and Camp Bullis Military Base in Texas on August 15, Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan and Carter’s Lake Wildlife Management Area in Georgia on August 22, and Chichaqua Wildlife Management Area in Iowa on August 29.

The point is simple: improve habitat, improve access, and make public hunting ground better for deer, other wildlife, and the next hunter who walks in there. NDA says volunteers at these workdays will also be entered into a drawing for one of three Tethrd Phantom XP prize packs, but the gear is not the main story. The main story is hunters showing up for the resource instead of just complaining that public land is crowded, neglected, or overused.

We need more of this. Habitat work. Access work. Sweat equity. Hunters shaking hands with agency folks and other volunteers while making the ground better than they found it.
