Mississippi Pushes CWD Education Ahead of Deer Season

Mississippi deer hunters have another CWD resource to pay attention to before the season gets rolling. MDWFP hosted an educational presentation before the July Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks meeting, with Deer Program Coordinator William McKinley walking through current chronic wasting disease research, what biologists are learning, and how hunters can help protect the herd.

That last part matters. Hunters are not bystanders in CWD management. We are the boots on the ground for population management, sample collection, surveillance, and responsible decisions about carcass movement and harvest.

CWD is not a talking-point disease. It is a long-game problem, and states that ignore it pay for it later. Mississippi is right to keep pushing information directly to the people who spend time in the woods and handle deer every season.
